Fingers and toes are usually fused together. Babies have arms and legs that are severely shortened or sometimes absent. Phocomelia syndrome is typically characterised by severe malformation of the extremities. “But I have a can-do attitude and always find a way to get there in the end.” “I’m right-handed, so it’s hard for me to do some things, including turning controls and dials on my camera,” she explains. ![]() Due to a congenital birth disorder, phocomelia syndrome, her right arm ends where her elbow ought to be, the fingers fused together. That’s because Jen, from Folkestone, Kent, was born without most of her right forearm and hand.
